Mullingar Parish

About The Parish

Mullingar parish has five churches, including the Cathedral of Christ the King, which is the seat of Most Reverend Tom Deenihan, Bishop of Meath.  We have approximately 25,000 parishioners, with nine primary schools, three secondary schools as well as a range of pastoral and social activities.  Our parish seeks to build a Christian community by celebrating the sacraments, especially the Sunday Eucharist, and reaching out to people in the spirit of the Gospel.

A photographic memoir of Mullingar parish entitled "Beneath Cathedral Towers" was published in autumn 2009, celebrating 70 years of the Cathedral of Christ the King and its parishioners.  In the introduction, Bishop Smith wrote:

"Within these walls, children are welcomed into the body of Christ and celebrate their first encounters with the Lord.  Couples are joined here in the Sacrament of Marriage; bishops and priests are consecrated to the Lord in the Sacrament of Holy Orders; the infirm are stengthened by the Sacrament of the Sick and our loved ones are laid to rest on their final journey home to Heaven.  To paraphrase the documents of the Second Vatican Council, ‘the joys and the hopes, the grief and the anxieties of our times' are lived out in this place of worship."
