Trocaire thirst

Jesus - "A spring of water welling up to eternal life" (Jn 4:5-42)

‘Thirst' is something everybody experiences. Water quenches and satisfies physical thirst. The soul can suffer thirst too and our relationships with God and our neighbour can become dry and meaningless.

A strange irony exists in our world: people in one part of the world suffer drought and famine, they are spiritually alive, conscious of their neighbour, dependent and grateful to God; they do not turn their backs on the Creator. In another part of the world, those who want for nothing in material terms live with a spiritual drought; the Creator is made redundant; manufactured goods, technology and comfort eating fill the emptiness.

Let this Eucharist unite us in our endeavours to relieve the thirsts of the world.
