Paying tribute to fallen comrades

The annual Mass for deceased members of the Organisation of National Ex-Servicemen and Women (O.N.E.) took place at the Cathedral of Christ the King on Sunday 26 August at 12.30pm.

The Mass was celebrated by Fr Michael Kilmartin and, during the liturgy, the names for 33 deceased comrades and members from Mullingar Barracks were read aloud.  Some of the music for the Mass was provided by the ONE pipe band, comprised of ex soldiers.

The ceremony had a particular poignancy in this community, taking place only two days after the funeral of Lee Scally, a serving member of the Defence Forces.  The trumpeter, Paul Kiernan, is a grandson of the late Sean Kiernan who died earlier this year and was a friend of O.N.E., Mullingar.

The O.N.E branch in Mullingar was founded in 1965.
