St Brigid's Day Devotions
The annual gathering in Cullion at the site of St Brigid's Well took place in Friday 1 February 2013 at 3pm. Kathy Meally and the local community assisted with the preparations for the devotions, which were led by Fr Joseph and student Aaron.
Fr Joseph began the ceremony with an Opening Prayer:
God our Father, give us a share in the gentleness and strength of St Brigid, patroness of our country. May we imitate her, who was known as Mary of the Gael, by our care for the poor, our generosity of life and our love of Jesus, your Son, who lives and reigns for ever and ever, Amen.
After the rosary and blessing of St Brigid's crosses, Aaron invoked "St Brigid's blessing":
Through her holy intercession with our Father in Heaven, may St Brigid bless you and make you generous in your giving, pleasant in your greeting, honest in your speaking, loyal in your loving, clear in your thinking, strong in your working, and joyful in your living. And when it's time for your homecoming, may there be peace in your passing and a warm welcome in Heaven, Amen.
